Krassus ein vortrefflicher Redner, Crassus orator optimus. – oder es ist mit einem Subjekte oder Objekte verbunden, dessen Vorhandensein zwar angedeutet, aber durch keine bestimmenden Merkmale auf einen einzelnen Gegenstand bezogen werden soll. Hier ste ht im Latein. aliquis, z.B. in der Erklärung einer Sache, in definitione alicuius rei (wogegen in def. rei heißen würde: des bereits besprochenen oder noch zu besprechenden Gegenstandes). – Wird aber durch »ein« angedeutet, daß ein bestimmtes, obgleich nicht [663] genanntes Individuum aus einer unbestimmten Menge genannt sei, dessen Namen man entweder als bekannt voraussetzt oder nicht angeben kann, so bezeichnen dieses die Lateiner durch quidam (ein gewisser), z.B. ein Kollege, collega quidam (verschieden von quidam de od. ex collegis, s. unten no. II, A). – Ebenso steht im Latein. quidam für »ein« bei Substantiven, die einen Gegenstand in gewissen Lagen u. II) insbes.: A) zur Angabe eines unbestimmten Individuums aus einer bestimmten Menge = einiger etc., jemand etc.: aliquis. unus aliquis u. aliquis unus (dieses zur nachdrücklichern Bezeichnung, daß dieses unbestimmte Individuum wirklich nur »eins« gewesen sei), z.B. einer von euch, aliquis ex vobis: einer von den frühern Königen, aliquis priorum regum: einer von den Deinigen, unus aliquis ex tuis: einer von der Partei, vir factionis. – Ist »einer« = ein gewisser, bestimmter, den ich aber nicht kennen kann od. mag, so steht quidam, z.B. einer von den Kollegen, quidam de od. ex collegis. – Ist dagegen »einer, einer oder der andere« = irgend einer, d. h. bezeichnet es aus einer unbestimmten Menge ein unbestimmtes Individuum, gleichviel welches, so steht aliquis (adjekt. u. subst.) od. quispiam, z.B. es möchte etwa einer (einer oder der andere) sagen, dixerit hic aliquis; fortasse quispiam dixerit. – Hat »einer« einen verallgemeinernden Sinn, so steht quisque (ein jeder), z.B. von den Gefangenen wurde, je nachdem einer Freier oder Sklave war, jeder seinem Stande gemäß hingerichtet, de captivis, ut quisque liber aut servus esset, suae fortunae a quoque supplicium sumptum est. – / a) Nach den Partikeln si, nisi, ne, num, quando, ubi u. übh. in Bedingungssätzen auch ohne die Konjunktion muß quis statt aliquis od. quispiam stehen, z.B. wenn einmal einer falsch geschworen hat, [664] dem darf man nachher nicht glauben, ubi semel quis peieraverit, ei postea credi non oportet. – b) In negativen Sätzen und in Sätzen, in denen ein negativer Sinn enthalten ist, wird »(irgend) einer« durch quisquam (subst.) u. ullus (adjekt.) ausgedrückt, z.B. ist einer unter allen Sterblichen, über den du besser denkst? estne quisquam omnium mortalium, de quo melius existimes tu?; ist wohl eine Sache so viel wert oder ein Vorteil so wünschenswert, daß etc., an est ulla res tanti aut commodum ullum tam expetendum, ut etc. – ebensogut... wie (irgend) einer, tam... q uam qui maxime, z.B. ich bin ein Patriot wie einer, tam sum amicus rei publicae, quam qui maxime.
B) zur Hervorhebung des einen, im Gegensatz zu zweien und mehreren, ein: unus (steht auch für unicus u. idem u. muß notwendig bei Substantiven stehen, die nur im Plur. gebräuchlich sind). – unicus (nur einer. ein einziger, einer u. kein zweiter). – idem (einer zugleich, wenn auf dasselbe Subjekt mehrere Handlungen oder Zustände bezogen werden). – alter (der andere, wenn von Pers. od. Dingen die Rede ist, die nur doppelt vorhanden sind, z.B. an dem einen Fuße lahm, altero pede claudus). – singuli (je einer, allemal einer, z.B. er wählte aus jeder Tribus einen Augur, ex singulis tribubus singulos cooptavit augures). – eins werden aus mehreren, unum fieri ex pluribus: mich beunruhigt das eine, daß etc., me una haec res torquet, quod etc.: die Götter haben einem Manne nicht alles verliehen, non omnia eidemdei dederunt. – mit einem Worte, s. Wort: in einem fort, s. immerdar, immerfort. – nicht einer, ne unus quidem. non ullus. nemounus (nicht ein einziger); non unus. unus etalter item. non nemo (nicht einer, sondern mehrere, gar mancher): nicht einer von uns, nemo de nobis unus: nicht einer von ihnen, ii nulli. – niemals einer (d. i. keiner je), numquam ullus. – der eine von beiden, alter (bestimmt welcher, auch mit Genet., z.B. alterconsulum): einer von beiden, alteruter (unbestimmt welcher, auch mit Gene t., z.B. der eine von uns beiden, alteruter nostrûm). – der eine, die einen von mehreren, unus. uni mit Genet. (z.B. Abl., z.B. Fufius, einer meiner vertrauten Freunde, Fufius, unus ex od. de meis intimis. – od. unus mit Superlativ, z.B. Skävola, einer der talentvollsten und gerechtesten Männer in unserm Staate, Scaevola unus nostrae civitatis et ingenio et iustitiā praestantissimus. – od. durch inter mit Superl., z.B. der Anführer selbst, einer der tollkühnsten, dux ipse inter stolidissimos ferocissimosque. – od. durch quo est nemo fere mit Komparat., z.B.
